Trail Purpose

The Sawyer water filter is a highly rated very effective water filtration option for outdoor use. We recommend it for daypacks and packpacks.

We spend a TON of time outdoors. We've used our filters dozens of times when we've run out of water or others around us have under prepared. One time with a Scout troop they all underestimated the hike we were on and consumed all of their water. We were near a stream and quickly refilled all of their containers with the filter/pouch combo.

The high-performance 0.1 Micron absolute inline filter fits in the palm of your hand and weighs just 2 ounces. It removes 99.99999% of all bacteria (salmonella, cholera, and E. coli); removes 99.9999% of all protozoa (such as giardia and cryptosporidium); also removes 100% of microplastics.

In the outdoors finding and purifying water can be a lifesaving activity. This filter should be at the top of the list for first purchases in your adventures.

What We Like

  • Clean Water - we've used this filter dozens of times without water-bourne illness and clean, great tasting water.
  • Squeeze Pouch - The portable plastic squeeze pouch lets you drink without getting your face close to the water source. We usually fill ours up, squeeze the clean water into another container and then refill.
  • Affordable - You can filter 100,000 gallons of water for a few bucks.
  • Portable - The filter and pouch are very portable. We include them in all essentials recommendations.
  • Testing - Each filter is factory tested.
  • Inline Functions - You can add the filter to your hydration bladder hose.

Tips and Recommendations

  • Clean the filter - Use the back wash plunger regularly to make sure the inlet remains usable.
  • Cap - keep the cap on the clean water end of the filter so germs don't get inside.
  • Multiple - these filters are affordable, get one for each vehicle and go-bag.
