The Ka-Bar fixed knife is a great field knife. It's built by a company with a great reputation. The full tang makes it sturdy and a great value. It is made of reliable 1095 Cro-van steel with a polymer handle textured for limited slippage. The blade's upper edge has a convenient ridged thumb serration area to help with control during pressure cutting.
It comes with a quality sheath. For the price it's a great value.
The Ka-Bar Becker 9 inch stainless steel, full tang fixed blade knife with 4 3/8 inch drop point is a great field knife. It is highly rated and reviewed.
We put ours to the test. We've whittled and chopped wood, scraped a magnesium block (made us cringe to dull the edge), cut paracord, cut meat and vegetables, and more. It held its edge very well (except on the magnesium scrapings) and was straight forward to sharpend again with the sharpening stone that came with it.
Overall, for the price the knife and accessories are a great value. The 1095 Cro-van steel blade is sturdy and the knife is well balanced. Pressure cutting is enhanced with the spine thumb serrations. We consider it ideal for camp gear. Compare it to the Schrade Fixed Blade Knife. Each has weight, price, and accessory considerations.
This tool can tackle many trail needs. It can help you build shelter, prepare food, administer first aid, prepare fuel for burning, cut cordage, and so much more. It's just the right size to keep its weight minimized while providing the best function.
